Manuscript letterbook, written in a single hand, containing copies of over 150 business and personal letters sent by "A.C.," probably Abraham Chitty, between 1730 and 1739. The business letters are addressed to his brothers, Josiah, Thomas, and Joseph, as well as to some of his tenants in Oakingham and elsewhere in Berkshire, and concern rent collection and rent arrears, window tax collection, farm repairs, and farming instructions. The more personal letters, also to family members, frequently discuss the advisability of Abraham Chitty's proposed move of his family, including his father-in-law, the Rev. Peregrine Phillips, to London. The notebook also contains a few account entries for the period 1725-1730.
